Jocelyne’s Blog: Prague

1.11.2012: As you read all our blogs you will see that already each of us is going to have a very specific field in mind. Mine is going to be gender, women’s everyday life, and making people aware of the challenge of an ageing population in Europe.

I have met my travel companions, and it is going to be great traveling with them.

Going to Koln and already, we know where we stand. Barry, Mark and I just stayed in our coach when all the others had left …. Philipp had to come and tell us to get down ….. Funny how having an idea of who is who is sometimes quick to grasp. Maybe the fact that the three of us are half Canadian accounts for that.

Anyway the rest of the trip to Praha was fine and very enjoyable.

We spent the day with the local Greens and they were absolutely great. That is when you realize that Greens are just one family, makes you be very optimistic : we shared good practices, listened to their experiences, disagreed about the way we, as European Greens, saw our work on the Future of Europe, received presents, took hundreds of pictures  and, to summarize, had a grand time.

It is great to be seven of us because it means we can disconnect at times and after the day journey + night fare I had had. I have to admit that the after lunch was a little tricky. As you read all our blogs you will see that already each of us is going to have a very specific field in mind. Mine is going to be gender, women’s everyday life, and making people aware of the challenge of an ageing population in Europe.

About the Czech Republic: child care facilities are not accurate because there has been a decrease in birth rate at one point, so the government closed down the facilities and now there are not enough. But there is a tendency at the moment and young mothers stay at home to bring their children up although they know that getting back to work is going to be difficult after three years time. As for he elderlies, I find back what made me create a senior group in France and join the European Network of Green Seniors, Europe is not ready to face the challenge of the baby boomers turning 80 ….. We have 20 years to adapt: transport, health care, housing, solitude …… We must not be a burden for our children, our grand children ….. so it is time we woke up and took the steps that are needed.

Being on board the Athens express is part of it ….. Making sure one breaks the routine, meeting new people, encountering the unexpected ….
