The right-wing AfD party is gaining ground in Germany; the situation is particularly precarious in the eastern German states. The Hamburg regional branch of the Greens 60plus and the national association of the Green Seniors are therefore supporting the campaigners in Wismar (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and in Halle (Saxony-Anhalt).

The Greens are currently polling at 5 per cent there. If they fall below 5 per cent, they won’t get into the state parliament. That’s why it’s so important that we succeed now! It would then also be easier to form a coalition to prevent the AfD from coming to power.

The door-to-door campaigning in Wismar went very well. Of course, there was some resistance at a few doors, but there were also lots of good conversations about low pensions, nature, climate change, lack of accessibility and healthcare, for example.
On 1 September, we’re heading to Halle. The Greens there are aiming for 100,000 conversations across the whole state in the final six days to win people over to our cause. We’re on it!
