Better living and working conditions, higher quality of health care and higher level of social protection lead to the fact that fewer people today die prematurely during childhood and working life. More people are now given the chance to live longer than in the past and old age is becoming a direct experience for an ever-increasing number of people. At the same time, the lifestyle, potential and expectations of older people are changing together with the rising life expectancy. People are living healthier and more active lives.
