Annual Report 2025
Green Seniors work for a society where people of all ages can live well according to their
abilities, while ensuring sustainable conditions for future generations. Older citizens
contribute extensive experience, knowledge, and insight, and many have a background in
social and environmental activism. Our commitment to peace remains central, and we view
nuclear power and nuclear weapons as significant threats. AI is becoming increasingly
important, and to prevent misuse, strong regulatory frameworks are essential.
We advocate for a Convention on the Rights of Older People and for an accessible society
where seniors are guaranteed equal access to healthcare, housing, public transport, and
social services. Combating ageism and ensuring dignity in health and social care remain key
priorities.
Green Seniors in Sweden have over 2,000 active members, engaged in political work across
the country. Local groups are present in many districts and municipalities. All local
organisations are part of the national body, Gröna Seniorer Riks, which holds an annual
digital meeting where spokespersons and the national board are elected.
During the year, the National Green Party Board tasked us with developing a senior policy
programme. The programme, comprising 12 chapters and based on the European Green
Seniors manifesto, was completed and presented. We submitted motions to the party
congress, where we hold five votes. We are pleased that motions regarding a Senior
Ombudsman and a Convention on the Rights of Older People were adopted.
To strengthen member involvement, we introduced nationwide digital dialogue meetings.
Topics included nuclear power and dignity in care. These meetings have become an
important forum for policy development.
To spread our message we have produced printed materials and supported the
establishment of new local senior groups, visiting two district organisations during the year.
This work will continue in 2026. We also participated in senior fairs in Gothenburg and
Stockholm, both drawing thousands of visitors, as well as political events in Järfälla and
Almedalen.
Our members are represented in regional and municipal councils, church assemblies, and
the judicial system. We continue to work actively for greater representation of older people
in the national parliament.
