We had a good session, discussing a position paper to Gaza and our preparations for the visit to Brussels. We are still waiting for confirmation of the date, but hope that we will be able to talk to EGP in July. There has already been a casual agreement on this in Dublin.
We must finally pay more attention to the situation of older people in Europe, because demographic change is here: by 2030, a quarter of the European population will be over 65. The group of very old people in particular is growing. We must prepare for this now by making our cities and communities age-friendly and giving older people a voice to participate in political decisions.
Older people often feel invisible to others anyway. Their needs are not heard; they are the obsolete model that hardly anyone wants to care about. Yet we need their resources for our society and we also need their vote in elections, because without older people we will have no significant influence in Europe.
Therefore we need Green Senior groups in all countries. And to achieve that, support from EGP would be very helpful.
